The iconic 5-star D’oreale Grande Hotel at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park has undergone a stunning R49 million refurbishment, transforming its interiors into a dazzling blend of opulence and modern elegance. Two floors of the hotel have been revitalized, featuring a total of 84 newly revamped rooms, including Executive Suites, Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, and Classic Rooms.

Upon entering the hotel, guests are immediately welcomed by a sophisticated and contemporary colour palette. ‘We’ve incorporated rich teal and gold tones, introduced in custom inlay carpets and wallpaper. It sets the tone for an environment of understated luxury that boasts new furniture and accessories,’ says Hotel Operations Manager Christel Carstens, who worked with Blacksmith Designs on the project.  The new bespoke furniture—crafted in ochre leathers and royal blue velveteens—adds a touch of grandeur, while lush new plantings in large, glazed pots bring a sense of the outdoors inside. These thoughtful design elements combine to create a space that feels both timeless and fresh as this world-class hotel located adjacent to OR Tambo International Airport.

The luxury hotel has also refurbished its renowned lobby with stunning new features. One of the most striking features is the pair of 2.5-meter-high wingback chairs that command attention at the end of the space. These regal chairs evoke the feeling of sitting like Roman royalty, instantly setting the scene for the lavish experience that awaits throughout the hotel.

The sense of luxury continues down the newly designed corridors, which feature rich golden tones and custom wool basket weave carpets in complementary shades of gold and blue. Each corridor is a prelude to the lavish spaces that await in the rooms. In the bedrooms, the transformation is nothing short of spectacular. Traditional bathtubs have been replaced with generous, walk-in showers, adorned with custom damask-patterned accent tiles—specially commissioned for the hotel. Wall-to-wall vanities provide ample space for guest amenities, while illuminated mirrors cast a soft, flattering light. Each room also features a dedicated, wall-mounted refreshment unit, offering a personalized touch that caters to the guest’s every need.

The materials selected for the refurbishment are the epitome of luxury.
‘We’ve used everything from emperador marble to custom-woven fabrics and velvet. Working with Blacksmith, we’ve ensured every detail has been carefully chosen to ensure the highest standards of comfort and elegance,’ says Carstens.
The crowning jewel of the room has to be the handmade 2.5-meter-high headboard, intricately molded with leather stitching. This stunning feature is capped with a suspended canopy made from exquisite fabrics, gently haloed by soft, warm LED lighting—a true showstopper that elevates the entire room into an experience of visual and tactile indulgence.

Guests at the D’oreale Grande are treated to more than just a stay; they are immersed in an environment of unparalleled luxury, synonymous with Emperors Palace. The meticulous refurbishment has redefined the guest experience, offering an elegant blend of contemporary style and timeless sophistication. Whether visiting for business or leisure, the newly refurbished D’oreale Grande Hotel is set to continue its legacy as one of South Africa’s most esteemed luxury destinations, offering a truly world-class experience in the heart of Emperors Palace.
